International Week of Sport for Social Change

Principal evento de mobilização da REMS realizado bienalmente, traz luz às questões relevantes relacionadas ao tema do esporte para o desenvolvimento humano, com o objetivo de provocar discussões e reflexões, além de analisar as principais tendências do setor.


São Paulo hosted, between 26 and 29 November 2014, the Third International Week of Sport for Social Change held by the SSCN, SESC, PRODHE, UNDP, Ayrton Senna Institute and CEPEUSP. The goal this time was to demonstrate the importance of physical activity as human development factor, through debates and workshops.

Among the highlights, the former player of Raí soccer addressed to the importance in towns and sports policies effective space and presented the Sport Cities report, developed by Atletas pelo Brasil, wich made a diagnosis of the sport in 12 of the 2014 World Cup host cities. Besides him, international personalities from the sector, as the vice president of the International Physical Literacy Association, Melanie McKee; and Richard Way, president of the International Sport for LifeSociety in Canada participated with lectures.

In the last two days, workshops were held about Tchoukball, Tennis and Street Football. The first workshop focused on educators and teachers, and the second, which took place in Cathedral Square Praça da Sé), was opened to the general public.

  • Participação de representantes de diversos lugares do mundo, além do Brasil: Irlanda do Norte, Canadá, África, entre outros.
  • Atividades variadas, como palestras, worskhops, rodas de diálogos, oficinas práticas e seminários.

REMS has developed a platform called MAIS ESPORTE BRASIL , which intends to inform and engage on the “movement” in favor of a new Brazilian sports culture , gathering the creation of a national sport system , improvement of the Sport Incentive Law, programs implementation for all populations (children, youth , adults and seniors ), among other important causesto the network and its partners.

The content initially presented was produced from presentations made at the Second Seminar Sport and Human Development, which was part of the Third International Week of Sport for Social Change in November 2014. The platform share national and international experiences in the field of sports for human development and suggests possible ways to increase programs and active leisure policies, physical activity and sport in Brazil.
